Can Missionaries Do Business? Part II

The short answer to this question is yes they can and probably must. Not only are missionary visas difficult to obtain, but funding is also becoming harder and harder to come by. Giving is down globally. Funding for missions in the US has dropped dramatically. The new development in missions is to figure out how to create self-funding ministries. Business is ideal for this—as long as it’s real.

I’m aware of many self-funded mission works around the world. Some are hybrid, i.e. partially donor-funded and partially business funded. Others are donor-funded for support but the local ministry is funded by business. Some are entirely business funded.

I’m hopeful that more and more missionary hearted individual will embrace the BAM path. As I said, they can and they should.
